Our Favourite Australian Summer Music Festivals

Nothing embodies an Australian Summer more than packing your bags and heading off into the sunset to one of the many wonderful music festivals this great country has to offer.

The season is finally upon us, so it’s time to stop dreaming and start scheming: where are you heading this summer?

To make your life a little easier, we’ve collected five of our favourites to get you off the beaten track and onto the dance floor.

Woodford Folk Festival

Easily the most eclectic on our list, Woodford Folk Festival has a bit of something for everyone. From writer’s panels, street theatre and acoustic jams to cafes, stalls and parades, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped from reality in no time!

DATES: 27th – 29th December
LOCATION: Busselton, WA
DO NOT MISS: The Commedia Dell’ tent – a one-stop-shop featuring comedy, fringe acts and circus performances. Live a little!

Three days is never long enough at this seriously fun end-of-year event, held on the sunny shores of Western Australia. Featuring both local and international artists, this music and camping festival is hard to beat. Check it out!

St Jerome’s Laneway Festival

DATES: February
LOCATION: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Fremantle, Auckland, Singapore and Detroit.
DO NOT MISS: Tame Impala. These guys just never get old, and being outdoors only adds to the ambience of their dreamy sound.

This much loved Australian festival never seems to run out of momentum. Originating in the eclectic laneways of the Melbourne CBD, this one-day festival now spans 8 locations in over three continents, boasting the hippest-of-the-hip in local and international musical artistry. Not to be missed!

Falls Festival

DATES: December – January
LOCATION: Lorne, Victoria; Marion Bay, Tasmania; Yelgun, New South Wales; Fremantle, Western Australia; Byron Bay, New South Wales.
DO NOT MISS: Making new friends during morning Yoga at The Village (Falls’ Festival Hub)

Calling all beach lovers—this is the festival for you! Held annually over New Year’s Eve in four picturesque coastal locations, get the best of both worlds with amazing music and the water in sight. Bliss!

Byron Bay Bluesfest

DATES: March (Long Easter Weekend)
DO NOT MISS: Soul priestess Mary J Blige. If you don’t know why—you should! 🙂

Australia’s premier Blues and Roots festival is a must-attend for those of us who walk with a little soul in their step. Renowned as one of the best events on the cultural calendar, groove out to local and international artists against the back drop of beautiful Byron Bay. This one’s a winner!

Whether you’re chilling at your campsite or tearing the dance floor, the most important thing to remember while at a festival is to look after yourself and stay in touch with your wellbeing. This includes sun-protection, nourishing food and staying hydrated. A hot Cocobella tip? Fressko flasks are a great way to carry around a fruity coconut water infusion to keep your body happy. Enjoy!
